China-linked cyberspace attackers are behind a vast espionage campaign against government agencies of interest, the cybersecurity platform Mandiant, a subsidiary of Google, reported yesterday
"This is the largest cyber espionage campaign conducted by an actor with ties to China since the massive Microsoft Exchange attack in early 2021," said Charles Carmakal, Mandiant's chief technology officer. The attackers compromised the cyber defenses of hundreds of organizations and, in some cases, stole "emails of important officials dealing with issues of interest to the Chinese government," Carmakal added. Mandiant said he has "near certainty" that a group called UNC4841 is behind the spying "in support of the People's Republic of China." The base in Cuba is just not enough.
