Brazil wants to drill the mouth of the Amazon River
With the support of Lula, Petrobras' director of the manufacturing sector, Joelson Mendes, said the company maintains its oil exploration project at the mouth of the Amazon River
"From our point of view, we are ready," Mendes said in a presentation to investors, where he revealed that he had presented new elements "that dispelled the latest doubts" about the environmental sustainability of the plan. "We are very confident that we will be able to start with a first well as early as this year," he added. Lula had said this week that the ban on Ibama (Brazilian environmental body that had opposed it) "is not final" and that Petrobras can "correct its plan." The Petrobras project foresees opening 16 wells with an investment of 3 billion dollars.
