The Biden administration has courted Argentina recently, especially after President Alberto Fernández traveled to Moscow in February and offered his country as Russia's "gateway" to Latin America. However, an Argentine court's landmark ruling sentencing Vice President Cristina Kirchner to six years in prison for acts of massive corruption is likely to dampen recent White House efforts to improve relations with Argentina's populist government.
