Ortega changes Nicaragua's Constitution to appoint his wife as "co-president"
The move comes after the release and deportation to the United States of 222 opponents who had been imprisoned and the 26-year sentence of Bishop Rolando Álvarez
Ortega ordered the head of Parliament, Gustavo Porras, "to make some reforms to the Constitution so that co-presidency is established." The reason? To appoint his wife, already vice president, Rosario Murillo, as co-president.
