Rio de Janeiro, one of Brazil's most violent cities, had 760 homicides in Q1 2022, down 18% from Q1 2021 and the lowest since 1991. In 2017, an unprecedented wave of violence erupted after the 2016 Olympics, resulting in over 5,300 murders.
