Former Bolivian President Jeanine Áñez was convicted to ten years in prison.
She was sentenced to ten years in prison yesterday for an alleged "coup" after she took power in 2019 during the country's socioeconomic and political crises. A mock trial, real political persecution against her, who had assumed the presidency following a series of constitutional violations committed by former President Evo Morales: namely, his failure to comply with the February 21, 2016 referendum that barred him from seeking re-election for the fourth time, the decision of the Supreme Court he controlled to annul the referendum because, in his opinion, running again was "a human right of Evo," and a vast electoral fraud.
