In 2021, there have been 107,622 overdose deaths, a 15% rise over the previous year. In addition, overdose deaths are 45 percent higher in the first two years of the pandemic, 2020 and 2021, than in 2019. Fentanyl has been responsible for 71,238 overdose deaths in 2021.
