The US government estimates that these drug overdoses result in 100,000 fatalities annually. The creation and distribution of fentanyl by Mexican drug cartels are one of America's most significant national security risks, ranking on par with worries about China, Russia, North Korea, WMDs, and climate change, according to US intelligence services.
